I Want To Buy A House But What Do I Do
For many people, making the commitment to purchase a house can seem over whelming. Many people want to buy a house, but they don't know where to start. Here are some step to get you started:
1. Find an area you want to live in. Maybe it's close to a good school, or within a certain milage of work, or close to family. If you know the area, it will be easier to narrow the search and will alleviate stress. It will also make it easier for the Realtor. We don't want to show you houses that you aren't going to consider purchasing. Also, make two lists of what you want in the house. One for the must haves (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen appliances, updated or not) and the second is what you want (tile flooring, wood flooring, pool, acreage).
2. Find a Realtor. I know this one seems simple, yet there is a huge benefit to finding someone you work well with. When people are making a choice that could have either a good or bad impact for years to come, it's important to have a good working relationship. If you are a person that likes to think things over and look at all of the options, it would not be good to work with someone who wants to show you two houses and then push for you to make a decision.
3. Before a Realtor takes you to look at houses, it is time to get a pre-approval. This seems to be the hardest part for a potential client to do. Realtors know this is intimidating, but it is important for us to know what you are approved for. We, as Realtors, don't want to show you houses especially your dream house and have you NOT be able to afford it. We work with people all the time, so if you are a little nervous about your score or a negative mark, don't be. We have the means to help you reach your goal!!
4. This is the fun part. We can go look at houses now! Typically, the agent will send you a list of properties to look at. Be honest! If you don't like them or LOVE LOVE LOVE them, let us know. We are making the best choices we can and can't change our approach without you telling US. This can last anywhere from finding your dream home on the first one to taking a couple of days to find it. But once you do, you will know. Now, it is time for your Realtor to get to work to close your deal.
My next blog will be on what happens after you find your dream home.
